This is one of my favourite books of all time. I have visted all the places mentioned in the book and am amazed at how perceptive the author was about the future developemnt of the countries that he foresaw back in the late 1920's. I usually spend about two months every year traveling around South East Asia, using Malaysia as a base. These travels were undoubtably inspired by this book.Product details

This is a superb book. Beebe writes with a moving humility and immense skill. It's had me laughing, crying, and always enthralled. Even if you're not especially interested in pheasants and just enjoy phenomenally good writing, I recommend this heartily, while if, like me, you have a love for tales of exploration and adventure in far flung corners of the globe you'll find yourself wondering why you've never read it before. I only wish I could have met William Beebe and personally congratulated him.
